Before you can start editing, you need to download the starter files:
- Click the download link provided in the video description.
- Once downloaded, locate the ZIP file on your computer.
- Extract (unzip) the file to a folder on your hard drive.
When you open the extracted folder, you’ll see 29 XBDR files—these are your starter templates.
To install the starter files, first make sure Darkroom Booth is running:
- Open Darkroom Booth on your computer.
- When the software launches, it creates a virtual drive named X drive—this is where all your templates are stored.
- Open File Explorer and find the X drive.
- Inside the X drive, locate the folder called Booth Templates and open it.
Now that you have the Booth Templates folder open:
- Go back to the extracted folder where you saved the 29 XBDR files.
- Select all the files and copy them.
- Return to the Booth Templates folder in the X drive and paste the copied files.
- Once pasted, check to make sure the files appear in the folder.
Your starter files are now available for use inside Darkroom Booth!
Now that the templates are installed, you can pick one and start editing:
- Open Darkroom Booth and go to the Booth Templates section.
- Choose a layout that fits your event (e.g., a three-pose landscape design).
- Open the template for editing.
If you want to edit the graphics, you have two options:
- Option A: Open the template’s background.jpg and overlay.png files in Photoshop for advanced customization.
- Option B: Use the default files without color changes and edit only the text inside Darkroom Booth’s built-in editor.
If you customized your design in Photoshop, you need to import it back into Darkroom Booth:
- In Darkroom Booth, replace the background.jpg with your edited file. It will be automatically positioned at (0,0) and fit correctly in the template.
- Adjust the layer order so your new artwork is at the top.
- Remove any unnecessary layers or instructions to keep the workspace clean.
To complete your setup:
- Import the overlay.png file to add finishing details.
- Check that all photos, text, and design elements are aligned properly.
- Do a quick test to ensure the template looks good and functions correctly in Darkroom Booth.
That’s it! You’ve successfully installed and customized a photo booth template in Darkroom Booth using starter files. These files save time by handling canvas size, photo placement, and dimensions so you can focus on branding and creativity.
